How does marine plywood improve wood utilization ratio?

Marine plywood is one of the commonly used materials in furniture. It is a wood-based board which can improve wood utilization ratio and is the main way to save wood. Marine plywood can be used for yachts, shipbuilding, body manufacturing, upscale furniture cabinets, closets, bathroom cabinets, wooden floors, speaker boxes, fan leaves, piano instruments, etc. Finland imported Terre waterproof adhesive, up to European environmental standards, with weathering resistance, 72 hours of boiling water without gelling characteristics. Physical parameters: 

Marine plywood must comply with BS 1088-1: 2003 plywood international standard. 

Dimensional deviation, perpendicularity and edge flatness: 

The BS 1088-1: 2003 standard requires: 

BS EN 324-1: 1993 was used as the reference to measure the dimensional deviation, the deviation of length and width was ±3.5 mm, and the vertical and edge straightness was measured with BS EN 324-1. Vertical edge straightness deviation is 1 mm / m. 

Moisture content:

1. Pre-dry weighing

2. Drying

Surface quality:

The BS 1088-1: 2003 standard requires polishing panels not to exceed the following requirements:

Pin: the outer plywood can reach up to 6 pieces per square meter, the inner plywood is not needed. 

Closed cracks: the outer plywood shall not exceed 2 points per meter and the total length shall not exceed 200 mm. No internal plywood is specified. 

Three cracks: outer plywood is not allowed, inner plywood edge is not more than 1, width is not more than 0.5 mm. 

4, wormhole, diameter 1.5 mm: plywood shall not exceed 2 mm per square meter, as long as there is no gap, plywood shall be allowed to appear in large quantities.

Lateral color change: outer plywood allows slight color decay, while inner plywood allows natural decay. 

Longitudinal joint: plywood for skinless board with a width of not less than 300 mm and plywood for noodle board with a width of not less than 100 mm. Inner plywood is not restricted.

End: internal and external plywood is not allowed. 

Indentation: internal and external plywood is not allowed. 

9. Other knots larger than needle knots, worm holes greater than 1.5 mm, decay: not allowed inside and outside plywood. 

External plywood is not allowed, internal plywood allows filling solids up to 3 square meters and dimensions not exceeding 60 mm. 

Manufacturing defects: 

The BS 1088-1: 2003 standard requires marine plywood to be free of the following manufacturing defects: gluing clearance, roughness, whiteness, impurity particles, and edge defects. Leakage is allowed to occur only within the allowable limits, up to 5 times per outer layer thickness.

Bonding quality:

The adhesive quality standard BS EN 314-1 should meet the requirements of BS EN 314-2 for adhesive grade 3. First, the sample was immersed in water (20 ±3) for 24 hours. Secondly, the samples were soaked in boiling water for 4 hours, then dried at (60 ±3) for 16 to 20 hours, then immersed in boiling water for 4 hours, then cooled with water at (20 ±3) for at least 1 hour. Third, immersion in boiling water for (72 ±1) h, then cooling at (20 ±3) for at least 1 hour.


According to the standard of EN 323: 1993 / BS 1088-1: 2003, the density of the standard marine plywood with moisture content of 12% should be greater than 500kg / m ~ (3). The density of the light weight plywood should be less than 500 kg / m 3.
